Thank you so much for the welcome...sorry it has taken so long...I love that there is a forum for learning about Sikhi for those of us that are new to it!
Waheguru ji ka khalsa, Waheguru ji ki fateh! Thank you so much for the warm welcome, ji! I really appreciate it. It's kind of intimidating to embrace a new faith when one has been pretty much faithless for so many years. Plus, I am old - 61. My parents are still living and live next door to me. Dad is 91, Mom is 87. To say they are NOT enthused about my embracing the Sikhi would be an understatement. I do, however, realize how much bravery is a big part of Sikhi, so I stand up to them as much as possible without being disrespectful to them in their old age. I have never before felt loved by the Divine and it's an indescribable feeling. I'm not willing to give that up but will take the slow and sure path rather than being rash and impulsive, which has been a big character defect my entire life. I'm so grateful to be making new Sikhi friends every week - it makes me very happy and I feel like I'm a part of something that is strong as steel - like our karas! So nice of you to reach out. Again, many thanks.
I'm not sure when, I've only known about it for a few years. I'm originally from Canada in an area where there isn't much Sikhs. Right before getting married, I moved to the UK and they were a lot more noticeable! I live near a big Gurdwara in fact, went in it once but I am shy so never returned.
I grew up in a non-religious environment so I started looking into religions in my late teens. I joined a forum where there's discussions about a lot of different religions as well and while browsing all the dharmic area I found Sikhi. I went on reading a little about it and thought it sounded very nice, a lot nicer than other religions. I could agree with a lot of it.
I'm not Sikh but I'm considering it. :) Anyway, nice to meet you.
Well, it's kind of a long story. The short version is I was raised Hindu (Vedanta) and knew about Sikhism when I lived in Chicago 18 years ago. Now, here in Virginia, I have friends that are Sikhi and decided to look more into the faith. As I have learned more, it has really called to my spirit and embraces everything that I believe and hold dear to my heart. I have been attending Gurdwara since June and have been doing Nitnem and Naam Simran. I seriously thinking about taking Amrit next Vaisaki, but continue to pray to make sure to make the right decision.
Waheguru ji ka khalsa, Waheguru ji ki fateh! Thank you for the welcome.
Vahiguru Ji Ka Khalsa Vahiguru Ji Ki Fateh!
